Single Engineering Examination Admission For All IIT, NIIT and Others in India

The council meeting of IIT which is chaired by HRD Minister Kapil Sibal decided that there will be a single admission test for all the engineering college in India from 2013 onward.

The engineering institute covers all the engineering colleges like IITs, NITs, state and private engineering colleges.

The merit list of this single admission test will be based on the combined weightage of the Class XII marks and aptitude test scores of students.

The aptitude test for this single admission exam covers the subject related to analytical ability only which would not cover the subject knowledge. This test structure for single common engineering exam is proposed by the Ramasamy panel.

All these decision were taken to curb the Coaching Business. According to Mr. Kapil Sibel Government is all set to open new engineering colleges to the poorest of children and end the coaching businesses.

In India there are number of Boards or organization authority responsible for conducting class XII exam. There are lot of difference in marking criteria for these exam boards, Inorder to make uniformity in Marking system the government has asked the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Kolkata, to evolve a formula whereby Class XII marks obtained by students across all boards in India could be equalised. Curtrently there are total of 42 such Boards in India.

HRD ministry has said that the single test proposal will now be discussed with states and then taken to the Central Advisory Board of Education, the highest decision-making body on education in India..
