Bank Lost 5.3 Lacs against Legal Case of Paying 9.5 Lacs VRS Benefit

What could be more cruel for the motivation of an employee against his/her employer ? A Nationalized bank decision to spent 5.3 lacs on the legal battle against it’s own employee rather than paying him 9.5 Lacs.

This happened with Central Bank of India, a leading public sector bank in India. Bank  has spent Rs 5.33 lakh in a 10-year legal battle to avoid paying Rs 9.5 lakh as retirement benefit on the grounds that employee died two days before the clearance of her name for the voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) of the banks in year 2001.

Homai Darayas Postwala – an officer in the investment department worked with bank for nearly 30 years applied for the first day of the VRS scheme launched by Bank .

Her application for VRS was accepted on 25-06-2001 ans she died on 23 June 2011.Afterward bank refused to pay any amount to her family on the safe online casino ground that she died before the acceptance of VRS.

After 10 years of the incident Supreme court has given judgement in favor of employee and said that officer was entitled to the benefits.Court also directed the bank to pay retirement and other dues under VRS to Postwala’s legal heirs in three months.

After seeing such news the motivation of working towards government organization get dimmed. What is the respect bank has given to 30 years of someone service ?–Nothing.
